Observing whales in their wild environment leaves an indelible, feel-good mark on the soul, and Knysna is one of the best places to do this. Ocean Odyssey, Knysna’s only official Close Encounter Whale Watching permit holder, is passionate about showcasing and creating awareness about these gentle giants of the deep as well as the many other species that are seen here.
Each year from May to November/December, they celebrate the return of the humpback and southern right whales as they skirt the Southern African coastline on their yearly migratory ritual that covers many thousands of miles. Our breath-taking Garden Route setting provides them with the ideal platform from which to introduce visitors to this rich aquatic heritage; an iconic estuary and adjacent ocean where a complex web of life is found.
The highly competent skippers possess in-depth knowledge of this dynamic marine environment, ensuring an enlightening and memorable experience for all! Trips depart three times daily from the Thesen Island jetty. Our vessels carry 12 passengers only so a personal experience is guaranteed.
With its palette of blues, Knysna is perfectly designed by nature for those drawn to liquid realms. With its backdrop of extraordinary beauty, sailing on Springtide Charter’s sleek 50ft mono-hull yacht, enjoy a truly memorable experience.
Departing daily from the popular Knysna Waterfront, Springtide Charters offers a variety of different sailing charter options. Whilst harnessing the power of the wind and dwarfed by the awesome grandeur of the Knysna headlands, our yacht sails across the expansive estuary and out to sea, moving parallel to the coastline.
Our highly experienced crew will take to the helm so you can relax and take in the splendour of our rugged coastline; the exhilarating combination of salt air, scenery and sailing. Once back into the calmer waters of our lagoon, guests have the option to feast on Mediterranean style platters and sip on delicious South African bubbly.
